About Allison
I am a highly skilled communicator. Parents receive timely e-mail responses, phone calls, and an open invitation to come for an impromptu check-ins. I readily try new teaching strategies, which accommodate student-learning needs and my effective classroom management techniques create a safe environment where students try new things, take risks and progress academically. Hands on learning activities and project-based learning are frequently part of my unit planning.
I always teach with a smile and show grace and flexibility when things happen that may alter my plans.

Children learn best by experiences. They need to use their senses, explore their different ways to do things, go to different places and see and experience different events. They learn from first-hand experiences most of the time. In lessons, I use a lot of storytelling, learning through manipulatives, reading books and looking at pictures. Children need active engagement with things and ideas that help them retain new learning and integrate it with what they already know. No matter what their knowledge about a certain objective or topic might be, this active learning can work with any child on any grade level. The students want to be involved in the learning. They pose questions and formulate their own ideas. When they aren’t as involved and learn passively, they are just doing the task asked of them to get the general lesson done, rather than learning more deeply and taking their learning one step further. By providing hands on projects and experiments, my students learn from their own findings, rather than having me as teacher tell them what they need to learn from the lesson. It gives them satisfaction knowing they can learn from their own findings.
