About Katelyn
My journey in the science started with AP Biology and AP Chemistry in high school, which sparked my interest in understanding how science connects to human health. In college, I built that foundation through biology, chemistry, physics, and other challenging prerequisite courses before continuing into advanced coursework and research. I went on to complete my master’s degree and am now pursuing my PhD in Translational Biomedical Sciences.
I understand how overwhelming it can feel to go from learning the fundamentals to tackling complex scientific concepts, exams, research, and decisions about your future. I want students to know that struggling with a difficult subject does not mean they are not capable of succeeding in it.
Through my research experience in immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, and biomedical sciences, I have developed both a strong scientific foundation and a passion for helping others learn. I bring a professional, supportive, and encouraging approach to tutoring, creating an environment where students can ask questions, make mistakes, and build confidence.

As a tutor, my goal is to help students understand the “why” behind what they are learning rather than simply memorize information. I can teach biological sciences at a variety of levels, from high school (from introductory to AP Biology) through undergraduate and advanced biological science courses (genetics, cell biology, microbiology, immunology, etc.). I adapt each lesson to the student’s background, learning style, and goals.
For a high school or AP Biology student, a typical lesson might begin with reviewing concepts from class, identifying areas of difficulty, and working through practice questions or past exams. We would then preview upcoming material so the student feels prepared for future lessons and assessments. For an undergraduate student, lessons may involve breaking down more complex concepts, working through research papers or lecture material, reviewing homework and exams, and practicing application-based questions that strengthen critical thinking and problem-solving.
What sets me apart is that I can also provide guidance beyond the classroom. As a graduate student with extensive research experience, I can help students explore careers in biomedical science, prepare for internships, strengthen their resumes, and navigate graduate school applications. I hope to share my passion for science while helping students build confidence, curiosity, and the skills they need to achieve their academic and career goals.
