My lesson plans are very methodological. I always start with finding the exam board the student's subject is in. The best place to start is to find the learning objectives for the subject from the exam board and work through these objectives one by one until we have completed specific sections.
How each section is completed is dependent on whether the student is a visual, audio or practical learner. For example, with Chemistry, I have a molecular set which visually and practically aids with understand organic chemistry mechanisms. I like to make my tutoring lessons diverse and not just sitting down with a book, pen and paper.
1 – National Open College Network Peer Mentoring Course
I have successfully completed the national open college network peer mentoring course. During this time I was mentoring GCSE students in 1-1 session and group lessons. With my guidance and tutoring I helped a student bring their science grade from an E to a B.
2 – Supervising Students, PhD
During my PhD, I am continuously supervising students both in the lab and academically. I am responsible for their safe working in the lab, marking their work and giving constructive feedback.
3 – Volunteering, Dalton Court Community Centre
A weekly homework club where children from the local community attend to complete their homework. The academic level is very broad from secondary school level to A-level. This is personally a very rewarding experience for me, every child deserves the right to learn and being able to help and assist with a person’s academic development is gratifying.
