About Jillisa
I am currently finishing my PhD in chemistry. I have been teaching since my undergrad, tutoring and demonstrating in labs and teaching undergraduates programming skills and maths. I love teaching, I love engaging with the students and getting to know them, and watch them develop.
I have always wanted to teach because it provides an amazing opportunity to positively influence young minds and help shape the future. I love seeing how my students grow in knowledge and develop strong analytical and critical thinking skills, which are essential for success in any field. As a teacher, I also find joy in seeing how my students develop as people, from mastering new skills to learning the importance of working hard to achieve their goals. I find great pleasure in playing a part in their growth and success. Furthermore, teaching allows me to share my love of knowledge and instill that same love of learning in my students. I take great pride in being able to share my knowledge and passion for education, and am committed to helping each student reach their highest potential.

My approach to tutoring is to create a dynamic, personalized learning experience that caters to the individual needs of each student. I firmly believe that there is no “one-size-fits-all” solution to teaching, so I always aim to tailor my classes to best suit each individual’s strengths, weaknesses, interests, and needs.
I usually start my classes by first getting to know each student so that I can understand their learning styles and abilities, and make sure I’m tailoring the classes to their specific needs. I also allow for an open dialogue throughout the session so that we can constantly evaluate and adapt my teaching style if it isn’t resonating with a student. Each session is usually 45-50 minutes, enough time to settle and keep focussed for entire period.
In terms of content, I make sure to provide students with engaging, dynamic materials that draw upon real-world examples to help them make tangible connections with the subject matter. I always also make sure to go over each lesson thoroughly to ensure a thorough understanding before we move on. Lastly, I strongly encourage students to ask questions, because there is nothing more important in teaching than encouraging critical thinking.
