About Jon
I am a PhD mathematician who has taught and tutored thousands of student in all subjects in math, quantitative analysis, and fields where math is applied. Virtually all students whom I have tutored have improved their grades (usually to an A) and/or projects or doctoral dissertations successfully. I take deliberate approach the ensures understanding and being able to apply ideas and methods not only to homework and exam problem solving, but to real-world applications in business, physical and social sciences, and professions such as nursing, computer science, law, et al. Moreover, I am good at fostering enjoyment and appreciation of mathematics.

When tutoring individuals or small groups I tailor my tutoring to the specific needs, interests and learning styles of the students while always inducing the student to confirm and display his/her understanding and mastery of the subject matter.
When teaching a class, I do the same with added emphasis in understanding the "why" and "uses" as well as the "how" of math topics -- with bits of history, puzzles, games and activities to inject some fun into the learning process.

I am currently taking a statistics class after being out of high school for 25 years and was terrified of this class but Jon has been great and helping me understand the concepts and all the different formulas, he is very patient and doesn't mind explaining things a couple times if I need it.
