I approach each topic by first guiding students through the specification so that they may develop a better understanding of the course as a whole, and the links between their different subtopics. Then, I begin by teaching them the course content in interactive sessions with carefully placed questions which requires consistent focus from the student so that they are keeping up with the course content. At the end of each session I think it's really important to ask the student to evaluate what they have learned and come to a conclusion or judgement on a particular question I task them with - evaluating is something many students miss but is vital for a higher grade. After several sessions of teaching the content itself I shift the focus onto exam and essay practice sessions, wherein I will teach the student how best to apply the information they've just learnt into an exam - as, after all, it's in the exams where their performance is evaluated.
I am a Politics BSc student at LSE who achieved straight As and A*s at A-Level in 2019. I took a gap year as I was offered a tutoring role by the sixth form thanks to my academic ability and the fact that I scored in the top 1% of my year group. My experience of one academic year in a real teaching environment, surrounded by teachers and course syllabuses has made me uniquely fit for tutoring as I have a real grasp on what it is that students should be doing to satisfy both their teachers' expectations and perform well in exams. I have taught over 100 students this past year both in classes, small groups, and mostly with private one to one tutoring sessions and this has enabled me to develop an extremely productive teaching methodology.
