Effective learning takes place when a student trusts their teacher and when they are treated as an individual with their very own learning needs and expectations. I want to ensure that my student reaches their full potential but does so whilst having fun and being engaged in exciting and tailored learning experiences. I create a purposeful learning environment and differentiate my lesson structure depending on the student's learning style, preferences and needs. I endeavour to make every lesson engaging by using a range of resources, assessment strategies and contexts that inspire.
I am an enthusiastic and fully qualified primary teacher, registered with the Scottish Teaching Council. I have received excellent training in delivering robust and engaging teaching across all curricular areas and I have worked with children and young adults across a variety of stages and contexts.
James Kolmer said, “no significant learning can occur without a significant relationship”. This is a philosophy I whole-heartedly espouse as a primary school teacher. Having majored in children’s literature by way of an English degree and having gained much experience in the realms of teaching and volunteering, I firmly believe that communication and the building of relationships are the core foundations of learning, teaching and human connection. I have extensive experience facilitating writing workshops as a volunteer and a teacher and I have also held an after-school, 'Write Club'.
Being a primary school teacher, I am qualified to teach language and literacy; specifically systematic synthetic phonics and developing reading skills. Nothing is more exhilarating than hearing my students' fluency improving as well as watching their enjoyment of reading blossom!

I taught a P7 class which included a Leavers Show and also attending a 5-day residential experience with 65 children in Dounans Outdoor Centre. I assessed students, planned for next steps and prepared children for transition to secondary school.

I taught a P2/1 composite class using a play to learn approach inspired by Froebelian and Reggio Emilia principles. I taught reading through a holistic approach, coupled with a phonics scheme. I worked with children with additional support needs and ensured differentiation across my teaching.
