About Sophia

I am a dedicated and motivated student with experience balancing academics, athletics, and leadership. I currently swim on both my varsity swim team and a competitive club swim team. I love painting, reading, cooking, and babysitting cats in my free time!

Along with academics, I tutor students through school community programs and have experience helping students improve both their understanding and confidence in subjects. My approach as a tutor focuses on understanding how a student thinks before focusing on content. My teaching method combines explanation, guided practice, and active problem-solving. I usually begin by identifying what the student already understands and where difficulties appear. I then break complex topics into smaller concepts, use clear examples and step-by-step reasoning, and ask questions throughout the session to encourage participation rather than passive listening. I also use techniques such as repetition of key ideas, visual or real-world analogies when useful, and gradual increases in difficulty to build confidence and long-term understanding.
