About M Arnold
First, I want you to never be afraid of learning or making mistakes while you learn. In fact, that's the best way to learn... making mistakes. In my 45+ years of computers and IT, the very best lessons I've learned and retained over time are from when I made mistakes. And that's easy to do with computers as they can be very unforgiving and "razz" you when you do make the slightest mistakes. They don't know any better. They do precisely what you tell them to do... no more... no less. If you don't tell it something, or tell it the wrong thing, it will let you know about it. Don't let that frighten you. Over time, you'll learn things to help you prevent mistakes. And even if you should make them later on, you won't go, "OH HOLY CRAP..." You'll just go, "aw crap." :) Let me guide you on your journey to be the computer and math professional you can be.

I first seek to find out what my student knows about the subject at hand or, if no experience, then some of the things in life they do know, that could be related to the subject. The first thing I try to do is show them how what I'm teaching can apply to their lives, today, and how the material can be useful. For example, if I'm teaching "decimals" as part of Math, I show them how important they are in their own lives by explaining how decimals are related to "money...." dollars and cents. Even young kids go shopping. I strive for as relaxed an atmosphere as I can get. I never criticize for making mistakes, in the beginning. In fact, I encourage them. Some of the best lessons I've learned and retained in life are from when I made mistakes! Over time, one learns how to prevent them. It turns one into a confident, decisive professional. When I can get a student to recognize what's going on (either new material or a correction to existing material), and then go "Ohhhhhhhhhhh," I know I've done my job. I teach K-12 in Math and 3rd grade to college level in Computers and Logic.
