About Orr

Expert teaching that empowers you to achieve top grades in: Politics, History and English, from the 11+ all the way to A-Level.

I know how it feels to stare at an essay question and not know where to start. My aim is to change that, so you walk into every exam feeling capable, prepared and confident in your own ideas.

I have the expertise to get you there.

With an LLB (Hons) in Law from the University of Leeds and an MA in International Relations from King's College London, and 9 years of experience in further and higher education, I know exactly what examiners and markers are looking for, and I know how to teach it.

I support students in Politics, History and English at 11+, GCSE and A-Level. Every lesson is built around your goals, your pace and the way you learn best.

My legal training taught me to read closely, argue clearly and write with precision, and I pass those skills on in a way that makes them stick. I'll push you, support you and give you the tools to succeed on your own. When you believe in your own voice and know how to use it, top grades follow.

Let's build your confidence together and turn your potential into results.

About the lesson

Every lesson is a one-to-one session held online, lasting at least an hour, with longer sessions available if you'd like more time. You get my full attention and teaching that's built entirely around you, wherever you are.

My lessons aren't lectures. They're a discussion and a debate, because I want to hear your point of view. In Politics, History and English, the students who stand out are the ones who think for themselves, and I'll help you find and sharpen the ideas that make your work unmistakably yours.

We'll start by understanding where you are now and where you want to be. From there, I'll create a clear plan focused on what will make the biggest difference to your grades, whether that's essay structure, source analysis, close reading, building strong arguments or exam technique.

In each session, we'll explore real questions, challenge each other's views and break down what top answers look like. I'll push you to defend your arguments, consider other perspectives and express your ideas with clarity and conviction.

Between lessons, I'll set the occasional essay and past paper questions to put your skills into practice. I also offer essay reviews and mock exams, each with carefully considered feedback tailored to you, so you know exactly what's working, what to improve and how to get there. Nothing is generic: every comment is designed to help you produce your very best work.

Most importantly, my lessons are a space where you can ask anything, try out bold ideas and grow in confidence. My goal is not just to get you through your next exam, but to help you discover what you bring to the table and give you the self-belief to excel on your own.

Orr and I studied Law (LLB) together at university, and I can't recommend him highly enough.

What I appreciate most about Orr's teaching is that he always hears you out. He encourages you to share your own ideas and builds on them, so you leave feeling genuinely confident in your thinking. He also has a unique way of linking politics and history, often drawing on the perspective of the British media, and his political and historical knowledge and acumen is second to none.

When I got stuck on the tricky concept of consideration in contract law, Orr patiently spent a lot of time explaining it to me until it finally clicked. I went on to achieve a First in Contract Law, and I owe a big part of that to him.

Any student would be lucky to learn from Orr. He's knowledgeable, patient and truly invested in your success.
