About Helen

I am a junior at NYU studying Childhood/Special Education and English. I have five years of experience teaching reading, art, music, dance, and math to students ranging in age from 4-16. I'm currently student teaching at Brooklyn New School, where I assist a cohort of 18 2nd graders with reading, math, art, and music. As an afterschool leader in high school, I helped a class of 10 elementary students improve reading proficiency by designing a literature-based curriculum that suited their needs.

I focus on building on prior knowledge to develop a deep understanding of whatever subject I'm teaching. In my work with elementary students, I've focused on developing lessons that provide multiple options for students to engage with material so all students can find the learning method that works best for them. I'm trained in developing phonemic awareness and writing skills in tandem.
