About Jason
Hi my name is Jason and I am a graduate student at University of Waterloo, where I also recently completed my undergraduate degree.
Throughout my academic career, from presenting at the Canadian Undergraduate Mathematics Conference to conducting advanced research in number theory and differential fields, I have learned that the key to mastering high-level math isn't rote memorization. It is about learning how to break down intimidating, abstract concepts into logical, intuitive steps.
Math often feels like a frustrating foreign language, especially during major transitions: jumping into advanced high school topics, tackling creative math competitions, or facing your first university-level proof courses. Having navigated these exact hurdles, I know where students typically get stuck and how to build the bridge to clear understanding.
My goal as a tutor is simple: I want to take the stress out of mathematics. Whether you are trying to boost your high school grades, train your brain for math contests, or conquer university calculus and linear algebra, I am here to help you build unshakeable confidence and a genuine intuition for problem-solving.

Math is often taught as a list of formulas to memorize, which inevitably breaks down the moment an exam problem looks slightly unfamiliar. My approach focuses on building genuine mathematical intuition. We don't just cover how to solve a problem step-by-step; we examine why the method works. Once the underlying structure makes sense, solving complex problems becomes second nature rather than stressful guesswork.
Levels & Subjects Offered:
High School Mathematics (Grades 9–12):
- Advanced Functions, Pre-Calculus, Calculus & Vectors.
- Building a solid algebraic foundation, closing conceptual gaps, and developing effective test-taking strategies.
Math Competitions & Contests:
- Prep for high school contests (e.g., Waterloo CEMC Contests—Cayley, Fermat, Euclid, COMC, CSMC, AMC 10/12). More advanced competition might be available upon inquiry (such as USAMO and CMO).
- Focus on creative problem-solving, identifying patterns, invariant analysis, and time-management under contest constraints.
University Mathematics:
- Single & Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Discrete Math, and introductory proof-based courses. More advanced courses might be available upon inquiry
- Bridging the gap from high school computation to university rigor: writing concise, formal proofs, and understanding intuition behind mathematical abstraction.
