My teaching method is being active and focusing on practical learning. While English is of course a very text focused subject, I feel there is no better way to learn than by applying your knowledge to the world around you. As well as practical learning there will be a substantial focus on whatever specific element someone is having trouble with. I believe in setting small targets for students in order for them to feel confident in their ability to learn without help.
I am an 18 year old student who has always had an appreciation for English. I have had experience teaching reading and English literature to children in primary school. I achieved a grade 9 (A*) at GCSE, and am predicted an A in the subject at A level.
I spent several months volunteering at my schools primary school helping improve year 4 students reading ability, as well as helping them with vocabulary. I was able to experience how to teach children and how it was different from my own ways of understanding. The experience was deeply enjoyable and allowed me to use my skills to impart knowledge.
I volunteered at my local library for several months. On top of my practical work of sorting books and checking books out, I would often work in the children section, reading with them or helping them decide what books to pick out.
I achieved a grade 9 (A*) in my English GCSE and I am further predicted an A in my English A level. As well as that I am predicted an A in History which aids in my practical understanding of English. I completed an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) on top of my A levels. This qualification means I have a greater understanding of university style work as well as helping me in learning how to manage my time. Furthermore, writing a coherent dissertation aided me in furthering my understanding of English Literature.
I will be reading English at university. My passion for English makes this type of work not just a job, but rather an opportunity to continue to do what I love as well as pursue teaching (what I hope to do in the future)
