About Jamal
Kia ora, I'm Jamal
I'm currently a 4th Year Medical Student through the University of Auckland, based at Tauranga Hospital this year. I absolutely love this degree and the working environment: the challenges of understanding human physiology and anatomy in detail, working with others in a team-based setting, and being able to further my own personal and professional development.
As someone who has pursued Medicine, I have a passion for human biology, and a detailed understanding of human anatomy and physiology – that I can't wait to continue to learn more about! Math and Geography were also both strong-points of mine at school, and were subjects I thoroughly enjoyed learning about and pursuing in my own time – I still often delve into mathematical issues online, and geopolitical issues around the world to make sure I stay up to date!
Drama was both my curricular and extracurricular passion at highschool. I acted as a main role in multiple stage productions, won Speech and Drama awards at a regional and national level, and gained my Trinity ATCL Drama Certificate with Distinction in 2020. I believe my Drama skills are incredibly transferrable to my day to day life, and help me as both a tutor and in my studies!

With regards to my teaching methodology, I would focus on students being able to gain a proper understanding of material rather than just wrote-learning it, and then for students to be able to apply that knowledge and learn how to properly answer IB questions in an effective manner! These were 2 things that I believe weren't done well for me at high-school, and so I'd prioritise both for students. I'd also ensure lessons would have 3-5 key focus points, so that students could learn without being overwhelmed with information
The typical length of my lessons would be anywhere from 30 minutes to 90 minutes, depending on the student and parent preferences.
I have helped tutor younger students with Math in the past, and have tutored and explained Medicine to younger students in more recent years.
My lessons would be for IB Diploma students studying HL Biology, HL Geography, or SL Mathematics Analysis and Approaches/Applications and Interpretations. I'd also be happy to teach NCEA level 1 students in Biology, Geography, Math, or Drama!
