I think the best way to learn, is through conversation. Especially with a heavy content subject like biology, the best way that I revised and memorised my materials during my degree was through talking to my friends about it. Despite the vast amount of memorising required, there is beauty in biology.
I discuss with students were they feel their weakest subject areas are, to allow us to focus on this within tutoring sessions. I focus on exam techniques and past papers to ensure that students are confident when entering their examinations with question styles and the content they will be faced with.
I would describe myself as an enthusiastic tutor -- I've found that my own best learning experiences were with teachers who were excited about the subject and eager to help and this is the style I strive for. As I'm a PhD student myself I think I'm especially attuned to learning needs and am always working to improve the ways I can help other students.
I am able to teach up to university level. I am friendly and highly flexible and change my methods depending on the student and their goals. I focus on active recall and application of knowledge from the beginning so you can gather an idea of how the concepts we learn will and can be applied.
I base my classes on the academic curriculum requirements my students have, particularly if they are working to a specific such as GCSEs, A levels or university module outcomes.
My teaching methods are extensive, from videos, field work, activities where the children can have their hands on. This gives them the confidence and understanding of the topics. I take my teaching passion not as a task but my responsibility.
My teaching methodology is three fold: 1. Create a safe space. In my lessons, there may be incorrect answers, but there are no stupid ones. My lessons are a safe space to explore and grow in your knowledge of the subject, without fear of judgment.
My teaching style is more of a facilitator as I aid in the learning process by providing information and offering feedback to facilitate critical thinking. Science is vast and so should be one's knowledge and desire to explore every bit of it. Concepts should be clear and I will help you understand the complex topics and master the easy ones.
The most important thing to me, when it comes to tutoring, is to listen to my student. I like to understand the areas in which they feel they are struggling; then I can offer help tailored to their needs. I have various ways of explaining topics and will alter my methodology, depending on the student's needs.
I base my classes on the British national curriculum and my science knowledge on UK A-Levels, a BSc and a pending MBBS (medicine and surgery degree). The theory aspects of my medical degree were conducted using a mix of problem based learning and traditional lectures.
I teach the core principles of a topic by using simple and demonstrable examples which I usually follow with the explanation of the practical application of the concept finishing with activities that consolidate information. Testing the student's knowledge is essential.
After building rapport, I want to focus on finding out the preferred learning style of my students. We will work with and build on that. I am able to use audio, visual and illustrative aids to effectively communicate with students.
I like to base my classes according to the preferences of the student. Before each class, I ask the student which particular topics they are finding difficult or would like to focus on more and so I then use most of the lesson time to cover those topics. I like to continuously quiz the student as I teach so I get an understanding of their knowledge and level.
Hello, my name is Rachel Jones and I am a final year Biomedical science student at the University of Birmingham. I can offer confident and reliable lessons at GCSE and A-Level standard, on a one-to-one basis or small group teaching.
My teaching method is aimed at what the student wants to achieve. The lessons will cover the main topics first to gain a foundation knowledge. Then, will progress to cover other topics and past exam papers. The lessons will be interactive. My teacher manner changes based on the needs and the best method that is suited to the student.
I always like to get to know my students properly first - everyone is different and so my approach needs to be tailored accordingly. I try to create a professional yet enjoyable productive session. As a student myself, I know how students think and what works best.
I will give lessons to students who are GCSE to A level knowledge and I would teach in a style that promotes active learning, which is a proven technique in memorisation and learning. this will be accompanied with traditional learning methods where I will try my best to explain concepts to students and answer or attempt to solve any concepts provided by the student.
For regular classes in a subject, we can plan a schedule according to the syllabus with special attention to the topics where you find difficulty and regular tests as well.
Stressing about exams coming up? Too much to revise in a short period of time? Need to ask questions that you're afraid to ask in class? Fear no more, Ang is here to make you kick butt in Biology :) I will be using platforms like Skype (don't worry, I won't make you video call me if you're not comfortable) to help tutor you.
My teaching method is based on visual learning, using diagrams and flow charts. Especially in biology pathophysiology where it required a more visual approach such as images and diagrams as opposed to chunks of text. Furthermore, I introduce topics slowly to get the basics consolidated and then advance throughout the topic.
I am happy to give lessons to anyone looking for help and guidance in Biology, you may be a GCSE or A level student or even an undergraduate needing extra assistance. I like to start with a broad overview of the topic, to reinforce the basics and form a good foundation of understanding. Then I will cover more details according to the level of the student.
I teach by working through the learning objectives of the particular class through examples and practice problems, as well as adding some extra practice in relevant areas as I see necessary. I am patient and use different methods to explain certain concepts (images, videos, words).
I like to find out how best the student learns and which way the student will take information best in before I make a full plan of how to teach each student. Eg. are they more visual so can understand from talking through videos together or are they more problem solving based where we work through past exam questions to get the answer.
The two key elements I believe are important to work on are both academic knowledge and academic writing style. I prefer to start classes by identifying key gaps in knowledge and gain an understanding of the academic style of the student by perhaps reading through existing work. I prefer to combine a variety of teaching methods, as every student remembers topics differently.
For now I can teach till higher secondary level. Work on the principal of whiteboard lessons after preparing them myself.
I enjoy visual learning however I am open to different teaching styles. I like drawing diagrams to explain things as well as creating mind maps to summarise bigger topics.
I tailor my teaching to the students individual needs, from my own experience in studying i know that there are many different ways of learning and everyone learns differently. I myself, know that i learn in many different ways, therefore i combine my techniques for optimal results.
I tend to adjust my teaching method to each individual student, mostly breaking down material so its easy to understand and can be linked into other topics, painting a full picture.
My teaching method is one-to-one personal tutoring with a specialised focus on ensuring a person's learning and understanding of a subject/topic is met no matter how long it takes. I believe in nurturing learning confidence is key to achieving higher grades.
I will give lessons to those studying A level sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) and those studying Biology at higher levels.
