My teaching is by drawing schemes and teaching the basics n concepts.
Hello! I am currently a postgraduate student of Molecular Pathology of Cancer at Queen's University Belfast. I will be graduating in December 2019, and till then I am hoping to offer tutoring in Biology at GCSE and A-Levels. I can also offer tutoring for undergraduate students in molecular biology, cellular biology, genetics and related fields.
Having being taught in many different settings with varying teaching methods, I would like to adapt what I have learnt to suit the needs of each student. Through explanations, drawing, (even dancing if I must), I want to help achieve the full potential of each student.
I am Ollie and I am an enthusiastic teacher of Biology and Chemistry. I am passionate about giving people the opportunity to be able to study Medicine or other courses at the UK's top universities. I know what it takes to gain a place at UCL Medical School, and I want to share this information to help aspiring medics have the best chance possible.
I believe the key to achieving good grades is by working not only hard but also smartly. Revision is not about memorising, but about understanding and once there is a strong understanding in place everything is easy to recall! I will pass on my revision tips and tricks to help you achieve the best grades possible.
I would describe myself as an enthusiastic tutor -- I've found that my own best learning experiences were with teachers who were excited about the subject and eager to help and this is the style I strive for. As I'm a PhD student myself I think I'm especially attuned to learning needs and am always working to improve the ways I can help other students.
The most important thing to me, when it comes to tutoring, is to listen to my student. I like to understand the areas in which they feel they are struggling; then I can offer help tailored to their needs. I have various ways of explaining topics and will alter my methodology, depending on the student's needs.
I base my classes on the British national curriculum and my science knowledge on UK A-Levels, a BSc and a pending MBBS (medicine and surgery degree). The theory aspects of my medical degree were conducted using a mix of problem based learning and traditional lectures.
I like to teach by open discussions as well as by using diagrams and flow charts to explain processes or concepts. I encourage students to come prepared with a little bit of pre-reading so that I am there to assist in furthering their knowledge as science is fact-based and I believe anyone can understand the basic gist of anything if they put their mind to it.
I teach the core principles of a topic by using simple and demonstrable examples which I usually follow with the explanation of the practical application of the concept finishing with activities that consolidate information. Testing the student's knowledge is essential.
For regular classes in a subject, we can plan a schedule according to the syllabus with special attention to the topics where you find difficulty and regular tests as well.
My teaching method tailors to each individual students needs. I vary my lessons structures to keep them fresh and engaging. I pride myself in presenting knowledge in a way the student will quickly understand and 100% of lessons will leave the student feeling motivated and eager to keep learning more.
I think the best way to learn, is through conversation. Especially with a heavy content subject like biology, the best way that I revised and memorised my materials during my degree was through talking to my friends about it. Despite the vast amount of memorising required, there is beauty in biology.
Stressing about exams coming up? Too much to revise in a short period of time? Need to ask questions that you're afraid to ask in class? Fear no more, Ang is here to make you kick butt in Biology :) I will be using platforms like Skype (don't worry, I won't make you video call me if you're not comfortable) to help tutor you.
I allow my students to first come to me with the areas they seek to understand better and we can work out a tailored method to help each individual learn about a part of human physiology with enthusiasm and great detail.
I am an enthusiastic and patient tutor able to communicate scientific concepts concisely and clearly, adapting the methodology to the interest and needs of each individual student. I normally review the exam specification a candidate is studying with them, identifying confidence and competence.
I am happy to give lessons to anyone looking for help and guidance in Biology, you may be a GCSE or A level student or even an undergraduate needing extra assistance. I like to start with a broad overview of the topic, to reinforce the basics and form a good foundation of understanding. Then I will cover more details according to the level of the student.
My teaching methodology is mainly interactivity. I like to inspire the student and to make them want to learn more. I truly believe that the best way of learning is by searching and discussing with logic and reason different topics. I like to use different methods for delivering content such as presentations, animations, pictures, diagrams and videos.
Most important thing is to understand the concepts and get them cleared in the beginning. This helps to indulge further in the interested subject. Speaking of Biology, it is very important to understand the basic definitions and concepts rather than cramming which is very stressful. A reminded for biology students is to learn everything and cover every corner of the book.
I teach by working through the learning objectives of the particular class through examples and practice problems, as well as adding some extra practice in relevant areas as I see necessary. I am patient and use different methods to explain certain concepts (images, videos, words).
My teaching method have adapted over the years. I approach each topic in a different way, based on the students knowledge level. I first assess the students knowledge level and start building their knowledge from that point onwards, so that the student can use their time efficiently.
My teaching pattern depends on the subject and on the learning style of the individual student. I find it helpful to apply certain topics to real life situations in order for students to fully appreciate and understand the topic in question. With regards to biology I find it easier to tutour students in small modules at a time and then applying this information into suitable scenarios.
Tailored to the individual students needs, depending on existing knowledge, level of study, course requirements and preferred learning styles.
My lessons are very much grounded in experiential teaching styles that seeks to personalise every encounter to my learner's personal needs at that point in time.
I believe nothing is easy. Hard work and perseverance is what takes you to places. I normally base my teaching upon understanding the student and their perspective to 'concepts.' I prefer to understand the student and their learning abilities and thereafter, partake the teaching. This involves knowing what assistance they would require before the class takes place.
I believe in order to understand complicated concepts in biology it is important to explain to student why the concepts are important for day to day functioning of the body or environment. I also feel definitions need to be broken down so students have a clear understanding of the mechanisms they are learning. On top i provide useful exam practice.
I am interested in teaching Biology - starting from the basics of human anatomy followed by cell biology and moving onto the body's physiology and pathophysiology.
I am 21 years old and studied biology, chemistry, maths and history at A level so I am able to cover all biochemical sides of biology in detail. I have a great bank of resources including videos to assist student learning outside the lessons. I am patient and am willing to approach lessons differently is a student is struggling to understand a particular approach.
I teach one-on-one online talking through each subject. I prefer it to be more interactive to keep the student engaged and make sure they have understood the subject matter.
My teaching method is based upon the individuality of the student. I will tailor the approach in such a way that it will instils confidence to the student and improve their knowledge, as well as their enthusiasm of the subjects.
