About Lucas
Hey! My name is Lucas, and I am a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences. In addition to my academic background, I have experience working in healthcare, where I see biology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology applied in real-world situations every day. This experience allows me to provide practical context for many of the concepts students encounter in the classroom. I also have previous experience tutoring biology students and have always enjoyed helping others gain confidence and succeed academically.
As someone who has completed rigorous science coursework, I understand firsthand how overwhelming these subjects can feel. I have spent years developing effective study strategies and learning techniques that helped me succeed. One of the reasons I enjoy tutoring is that teaching reinforces my own knowledge and keeps these important concepts fresh in my mind as I continue pursuing a future in healthcare. I genuinely enjoy discussing science, helping students work through difficult topics, and seeing the moment when a concept finally clicks.

My teaching philosophy is centered on understanding rather than memorization. One of the most effective study techniques I used throughout my own academic career was active recall, and I incorporate this heavily into my lessons. Instead of repeatedly rereading notes, I teach students how to challenge themselves with questions, retrieve information from memory, and make meaningful connections between concepts. I also share the study methods that helped me succeed, as well as the strategies that did not work for me, so students can spend more time learning efficiently and less time feeling overwhelmed.
One of the reasons I love anatomy, physiology, and biology is that everything in the human body is connected. Understanding one system often helps explain another. My goal is to help students see these connections so that concepts become easier to understand and remember. Rather than viewing science as a collection of isolated facts, students learn how systems interact and why biological processes occur.
A typical lesson begins with identifying the student's goals, upcoming exams, or challenging topics. We then review key concepts, work through diagrams, practice questions, and active recall exercises, and finish by reinforcing the most important takeaways. Lessons are tailored to each student's learning style and can focus on class material, homework assistance, exam preparation, or comprehensive content review.
