About James
I am currently a 3rd year medical student living in Geelong who has extensive experience studying and teaching biology and other medical and science subjects.
In 2015 I graduated with a Bachelor of Science with class one honours in neuroscience and a Dean's Commendation of Excellence from the University of Queensland. I also gained a Bachelor of Arts in 2015 majoring in psychology. In 2016 I conducted neuroscience research and have since had this work published in two highly reputable scientific journals.
I have experience tutoring university level and high school (IB higher level) biology and chemistry. I also have experience in essay writing, and science writing and experimental design and can provide guidance in these areas.

My approach to teaching is tailored to the specific needs of each individual student and involves one or more of the following methods.
If the goal of the student is to gain a conceptual understanding of a topic, then I start by asking the student to explain their understanding of the topic and then I fill in the gaps using 'chunking and checking' techniques throughout.
If the goal is to memorise a set of information, then I design a 'spaced repetition' testing format for the information to be understood and memorised in the smallest amount of time possible.
If the goal is to check their understanding of a given topic, such as the quality of an assignment or essay, then I read over their work and provide individualised feedback and editing.
