About Henny
I have always loved maths. (okay, I have not always liked it, especially when you're stuck on one question for hours, but I have always loved it deep down) There is something so satisfying about applying and mastering a technique and getting the right answer - I didn't think there was anything better until I started tutoring maths. Seeing the excitement on someone else's face when they had managed to complete a question with what I had taught them was just amazing!
I am a first-year undergraduate student at King's College London studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics. I received a 7 in AA Mathematics for the International Baccalaureate and a 9 in both GCSE Maths and GCSE Further Maths. I tutored for a year and a half at a local high school, teaching maths to GCSE students and younger years.
Studying PPE alongside tutoring maths means that I have a broader understanding of the real-world applications of maths - this can often make for good analogies to help students understand topics better!

GCSE maths can be hard to wrap your head around sometimes and in my experience of learning and tutoring maths, I have become increasingly aware of how individual the process of understanding it can be. Therefore, our sessions will be tailored to what you want to cover and the things you find most difficult.
In our first session, we will talk about the topics you find the hardest (ratios, algebra, geometry etc..) and create a priority list. From here we can structure our sessions topic-wise and ensure that you feel confident with the whole syllabus, not just some of it! Each session will last one hour as we cover methods required for the application of certain mathematical skills and explore exam questions.
I will ask that before each of our sessions, you prepare three or four exam questions that you cannot do or struggle to get through independently. When we look at the questions together, I'll ask you to show me how far you got and then prompt you to go further with some of the techniques that we cover together. I have found that this works tremendously with building confidence when handling questions in an exam situation!
While I will guide the sessions with the techniques I have outlined here, the hour we have together is yours and I want to make the space for you to tell me what you need. If you feel like you're not happy with your progress or there is something about the sessions that you would like to change, I will try my best to accommodate that so we can ensure that you are working towards your best result!
