I just finished A levels and will teach students studying maths up to GCSE aswell as GCSE further maths students. While tutoring we will identify weak points and work on them. I like to incorporate practice questions in my teaching aswell as explanation of methods. I allow students to attempt questions to the best of their ability before intervening.
Throughout my time at university, I came to understand that I retained the subject matter more efficiently when my lecturers took in to consideration the needs of their students. They encouraged my classmates and me to ask questions. This is how we learn. I would like my students to do the same. Ask as many questions as you like.
I base my classes on the Cambridge supervision techniques, whereby the student is given the chance to attempt questions on their own, while I guide them through their thinking process, instead of simply spoonfeeding them with information. This is a good technique to enhance cognitive skills and train the student to develop a more independent thinking style.
