I am a qualified Mathematics teacher. I have taught in schools in several countries. My teaching approach depends on the individual student's learning method. I do private tutoring one to one or small groups in your home or at mine.
My approach to teaching focusses on engaging students with the material at hand, and hopefully exciting them about the subject. Students are undertaking their own learning, while I am present to guide and facilitate their journey. I hope to teach students by facilitating their learning and understanding, rather than attempting to cram knowledge in their heads.
My teaching method is practice make perfect. I believe that the best way to learn how to do something is to practice similar questions until it becomes second nature. One on one tutoring means that there is no chance of getting left behind in the classroom, we won’t move on until you understand the concepts fully.
I can give lessons to children and teenagers covering both basic and intricate mathematic problems. Lessons can vary from thirty minutes to an hour depending on ability. I try to make each lesson suited to childrens needs and interesting to keep individuals attention.
I base my classes on the students' preference; tell me a topic you're struggling with a few days in advance and I'll prepare some easy-to-follow steps until you understand fully. I will also provide an optional homework just to solidify your learning.
I have use of practical resources so, students can visually see how the concepts work to solve a problem, then move onto more abstract problem solving (that's where the problem is represented by pictures and numbers). Problems are usually based on real life problems so, if I can replicate or demonstrate that, I will.
I always try to find a way of visually representing each question or problem to make it easier to understand. I find this approach especially helpful when first learning a new topic. I will start each lesson with a bit of theory before moving on to do some practice questions.
My teaching method is one to one as it allows the pupil to ask questions without feeling scared or nervous
I have a First class Honours degree in Natural Sciences and a PGCE, specialising in Mathematics. I teach students the content required as well as how to interpret and problem solve. All of these skills are needed for the new GCSE.
