My usual way of teaching is by starting with the objective of the lesson/session what our goals are by the end of the lesson. Then I start by gauging some previous knowledge and see where the student(s) is (are). We have the actual concept explained bit by bit using examples, visuals, kinematics depending what the concept is and how the student learns.
