I am a year 12 A-Level student with 10 GCSEs (7As, 3A*s in all compulsory subjects, including classical civilization, art, history and french) doing History, English Literature, Biology and Religious Studies currently. I am most comfortable teaching English - either language and literature which I have an A* for both in GCSEs.
I will be most confident in teaching primary school level and year 7 students in English, including entrance exam preparation (including 11+). I will spend the first lesson getting to know the students abilities/level in the subject, then structure the lessons with a balance that focuses on topics they appear to have less confidence in and also strengthening their confident topics to give them the best preparation for their lessons and exams and find the best learning techniques for the student.
As I am a Sixth Former, my lessons will need to be scheduled during evenings, weekends and holidays and I tend to schedule each lesson per hour however, I am willing to extend lessons if this is preferred. I am fairly flexible with times and will accept changes to lessons, provided enough notice is given.
I feel that it is important to discuss with the student themselves when structuring lessons - ensuring they are learning/studying topics they feel they will benefit from the most and therefore my lesson structure and learning techniques can differ from each student (e.g. some students may prefer learning from diagrams or patterns, whereas others may prefer reading or discussing is the best way).
I have never tutored before in an academic subject, but I have experience with children from being a young leader in scouts and thus have experience in accustoming to a range of abilities. I have an A* in both English literature and language and I am continuing English literature to A-level.
I consider myself a friendly person who considers others and I aim to help people to get the most out of their learning - to make it as fun and educational experience as possible.
If travel is possible by public transport, travel expenses to not need to be paid. I will try as much as possible to do this.
Primary school students up to Year 5 are £10 an hour, therefore £40 for 5 and £85 for 10. Students from Year 6 on will be £12 due to the introduction of entrance/end of year exams.
If a student wishes to negotiate a price for whatever reason, I will be more than happy to discuss this if a reasonable issue is raised.
Last year I completed my GCSEs, obtaining 7As and 3A*s in the compulsory english, maths, and 3 sciences in addition to history, french, classical civilisation and art. Both my english grades were A*.
I am currently in year 12 - Sixth Form - doing four a-levels (History,English,Religious Studies and Biology), with the intention of applying to university in 2019 for psychology.
I am grade 5 standard in both flute and piano and aim to achieve my grade 6 exams in flute, piano and singing this year. A few years ago, I acquired the Jack Petchey young achievers award and have both my Bronze and Silver DofE award, currently doing my Gold DofE award.
I have experience volunteering at Oxfam, both sorting and managing donations with fellow volunteers, but also working at the till, managing customers. In addition to this, I worked at the scout uniform shop for 6 months where I managed orders and conversed with customers - this increased my skills in mental maths and calculations as all purchases had to be without a till. Furthermore I have work experience in HR at BEH hospital managing data and sorting out training for the employees.
I am a volunteer at two charities that focus on the benefit and wellbeing of children and their families - the Anna Freud Centre (as a 'Young Champion') and the National Children's Bureau (as a research adviser) where I have the ability to use my own voice and opinions to impact important decisions in children's services and education, including working alongside others from various backgrounds to promote awareness through research we have studied and discussed as a team, attending conferences, panels and schools, in addition to creating animations and videos to appeal to children and families.
