About Riko
As a Sussex University student, I first came to Brighton in 2019. Ever since my moving, I’ve always missed the homie tastes from Japan; so I decided to start cooking some Japanese food with limited access to some specific ingredients and vegetables. I realised that I feel much happier after eating my food (especially when it went successful!) and I increasingly started feeling that this is something that maybe I can share with others - the joy of cooking and eating Japanese food. It’s such a grounding and refreshing feeling!
Also, I‘ve been tutoring diverse people in Brighton for over a year now, and learning Japanese culture through cooking has been helpful and satisfying according to some of my students…since learning a language comes with hand in hand with learning its culture. So I thought I’d try a dedicated lesson for cooking!

Cooking is a great way to understand culture and communicate with others. In my lesson, I adopt an approach not only to teaching how to cook yummy Japanese dishes, but also sharing the joy of cooking with my students. Also, I love to tell stories about my culture through food, learning and appreciating food together with my students. After cooking, we eat together and have some nice conversations :) Please feel free to ask any questions and let me know any preferences!
