About Agustin

I am Agustin, a professional drummer, percussionist and educator with over 20 years of performance experience and more than 18 years of teaching experience. I work with students aged 12 and up, from complete beginners to advanced musicians, helping each student develop their skills according to their individual goals, interests, and musical aspirations.

Throughout my teaching career, I have had the pleasure of preparing more than 10 students for successful admission to music universities and higher education programs around the world. I have taught in private studios in Washington, DC; New York City; Amsterdam, the Netherlands; and Santiago, Chile. I also have over six years of experience teaching online to students in Europe, the United States, and South America.

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance (Percussion) and Psychology from SUNY Fredonia in New York, and a Master's degree in Music in Jazz and Pop (Drum Set) from the Utrecht Conservatory, part of the University of the Arts Utrecht in the Netherlands.

My musical education includes studies with distinguished professionals such as Dr. Kay Stonefelt, Broadway percussionist; Dr. John Bacon, jazz drummer and educator; Shawn Pelton, Saturday Night Live drummer and session musician; Eric Shin, Principal Percussionist of the National Symphony Orchestra; and Joost Kesselaar, jazz drummer based in Amsterdam.

As an active performing and recording musician, I bring real-world musical experience into every lesson. I particularly enjoy helping teenagers and young adults prepare for auditions, music school entrance requirements, and higher education. I also work with adults who want to explore percussion and drum set for personal enjoyment, creative expression, and lifelong musical development.

My teaching approach is friendly, patient, and student-centered. I use a four-axis method that integrates Technique, Coordination, Language, and Repertoire. This allows students to build a solid technical foundation, develop musical independence, understand different styles, and apply what they learn to the music they love.

Lessons are structured around one-hour weekly sessions, with clear goals and a personalized learning plan for each student.

I am fully fluent in both English and Spanish at a native level, and I welcome students from different backgrounds, musical traditions, and levels of experience.

Whether your goal is to play your favorite songs, develop your musicianship, explore jazz and improvisation, or prepare for a professional or academic path in music, I would be happy to help you move forward.
