About Cully
I am a 41-year-old returning college student in my 5th year at Purdue University, nearing completion of my Bachelor's Degrees in both Physics and Mathematics. I have gone far enough in my studies to recognize that math and physics are taught in keeping with a very old tradition of "gatekeeping" the answers and forcing students to learn one way - by repetition, which is a very outdated method and many students like myself just aren't wired to learn this way. If you're anything like me, you need to understand what the math is saying, what it's doing and the rules that let you do the thing. I give you tools to use to solve problems and then I show you where those tools will work...and where they "break" - the use cases for those tools and techniques and the limits of their use. "If you see this term show up with this form, then it tells you you can't use this tool anymore. Now you need this other one here." So, what I teach is very much like teaching a new language (which it is) and much like a new language...you have to use it; practice it, to be able to "think" in that language. I am your math and physics translator. And, no matter your experience or education level, I will find a way to connect it to the familiar; to the things you already know. I'll never hand you a formula and say "just use this". I'll explain where it comes from, why we use it, and why it's the best tool for the job out of all the tools we have available. I have taken students from an F or a D in Algebra or Calculus to getting an A or B. Which, I think demonstrates that I do things differently than the mainstream educational methods...and it works. I am passionate about math and physics and I think they should be taught much differently than they are right now. Let me show you a better way.

I will meet you where you are and use familiar language and concepts and help you to understand - not just solve - mathematical problems. My specialty is breaking down complex concepts into simpler pieces and helping to build your intuition for what tools to use and when, never just memorize some process that you don't understand. You're smarter than you think. I'll help you see that.
