About Ellie

I am an artist and educator with a deep passion for creativity, visual communication, and the artistic process. I believe art is not just about producing outcomes, but about exploration, experimentation, and discovering your own way of seeing and making. My goal as a teacher is to help students uncover their unique visual language and personal handwriting, building confidence in both their ideas and technical skills. I’m passionate about sharing my knowledge and love for creative thinking - from drawing and mixed media to digital design using Adobe Photoshop. I encourage students to explore a wide range of materials, techniques, and concepts so they can find what truly inspires them. A big part of my teaching is focused on portfolio preparation for Art Foundation and Degree-level study. I guide students through the process of developing a professional, well-curated body of work that reflects their individuality, creative process, and critical thinking. I also love showing examples of my own work and past student portfolios to help demystify what art schools are looking for and to spark ideas for new directions. Teaching, for me, is about more than developing skills - it’s about nurturing curiosity, confidence, and creative independence. I find great joy in seeing students grow, take risks, and achieve success on their path towards art school and beyond.

Art & Design Tutor | GCSE, A-Level and Art School Portfolio Preparation

I am a passionate and dedicated Art & Design tutor specialising in supporting GCSE and A-level students, as well as those preparing portfolios for Art Foundation and undergraduate art and design courses.

My teaching helps students strengthen their technical ability, develop more thoughtful and original ideas, and discover their own visual language. I provide individual guidance across Fine Art, Graphic Design, Textiles and Fashion, helping each student create work that is both personally meaningful and aligned with assessment criteria.

Sessions may include drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, photography, digital design, fashion illustration and textile experimentation. I encourage students to investigate widely, experiment confidently, take creative risks and reflect critically on how their ideas develop.

For GCSE and A-level students, I offer focused support with:

* Understanding AQA, Edexcel and OCR assessment objectives
* Developing ideas from an initial theme or starting point
* Sketchbook structure and presentation
* Artist and contextual research
* Meaningful annotation and critical reflection
* Experimentation with materials and processes
* Refining ideas and planning personal outcomes
* Coursework, personal investigations and externally set assignments

I also specialise in preparing students for competitive Art Foundation and BA applications. This includes portfolio selection and development, personal creative projects, interview preparation and guidance on communicating ideas confidently during portfolio reviews.

My teaching approach reflects the independence and energy of an art-school studio. Rather than imposing a particular style, I help students recognise what makes their work distinctive and develop the creative confidence to pursue it. I believe that the strongest portfolios reveal curiosity, experimentation and genuine personal development—not simply polished final pieces.

I support students applying across Fine Art, Graphic Design, Textiles, Fashion Design and related creative disciplines, including applications to institutions such as Central Saint Martins, London College of Fashion, Kingston University, Loughborough University and Manchester School of Art.
