About Gabriel
I have recently graduated from the University of Oxford with an award-winning first class degree in History. My study centred around Britain from c.1500, but I have taken courses as varied as the 'Global Middle Ages', 'Theories of the State', and 'Literature and Politics in Early Modern England'. History is an incredibly broad subject - encompassing a great range of approaches, themes, and contexts - but, as a discipline, it provides an invaluable access to understanding the human world - its people and its processes.
Whilst my own particular interests take me very close to an intersection with English Literature - and the insights this gives into how historical figures thought about and described their existence - I am fired with a love of all things historical (and most things literary), and would love to help those looking to a gain a better understanding of the past. I firmly believe that whilst working towards academic goals (such as exams) can be rigorous and demanding, it should always be accompanied by a sense of intellectual excitement. It is this combination that I hope to bring to my lessons.

During my time at Oxford, I was incredibly fortunate to have studied in a tutorial system of one-to-one, or two-to-one instruction. I was taught by experts who, whilst always providing a steadying hand, allowed me to develop my own thoughts on important issues. This tutorial system is the model for my teaching as it creates an environment in which students have the freedom to make mistakes, alongside the presence of a tutor to guide them on their own terms. I believe it is crucially important to tailor teaching to the individual needs of students, according to how they themselves learn best.
Alongside tutoring for secondary education (including A levels and GCSEs), I would be very happy to help any students applying for, and studying, History at degree level. Given my own experience, I have an understanding of the Oxbridge system, and so would be able to give insight and advice here in particular. Whilst my degree was in History, a significant aspect of my study was looking at the interface between literature and wider historical processes and, with my background in English Literature (A* at A level, including a school award), I tutor this subject up to A level as well. My lessons would typically last an hour, but this is flexible and can be adapted.

I was at university with Gabriel and he has a brilliant mind and achieved outstanding degree results. Both of us having studied humanities subjects, we have had some great discussions about all sorts of historical and political topics over the years. He not only 'knows his stuff', but is also patient and easy to get along with. Gabriel is a diligent and reliable tutor, who is passionate about his subject and has the necessary skills to cater to the individual needs of his students.
Gabriel is exceptionally intelligent, thoughtful, and diligent. In the 3 years I have studied alongside him, I have seen him continually go out of his way to help others with their work. His engaging personality makes him a joy to work with, and he can be relied upon to deliver tutoring tailored to your needs, with energy and enthusiasm.
