Visual artworks reveal a lot about their author and the context in which they have been created. They are a visual materialisation of human beings’ direct experience of the world.
Hi! I’m Melissa, currently in my first year of university studying History at Keele University. Areas I specialise in: - Nazism in Germany - Industrial Revolution of Britain - The American Past - Early Modern Europe - Middle Ages I can provide lessons via video source or in person.
I am a practising fine artist based in Birmingham. I have exhibited and have work in private collections throughout the UK . I have been selected twice as a finalist for the Sketch Drawing prize in 2011 and 2013. - Which subject(s) do you teach? Fine Art: Drawing, Painting and Printmaking; and History of Art - Tell me about your qualifications.
I am adapting my method to the student age, studies, method of learning and real needs. I want the students to enjoy what they are doing and have a full understanding of each topic. It is crucial for me to let people enjoy the class, it is the best way to learn.
I tend to teach by asking the students what they think and trying to go from what they know. I think it is important to try to elicit as much as possible from the student, rather than just tell them the answer. I tend to use film and card sorting activities with my students to make the lesson more memorable and/or more student-focused.
My teaching method is all about helping my students figure things out for themselves. I am not there to lecture them, but rather to give them a push in the back in the right direction. I know I have succeeded when I'm not needed any more.
