I structure the lessons to improve grades by focusing on areas of poor understanding. I usually will work through the topic with the student until the concepts are understood before past paper questions are answered with my assistance.
Perfect the basics and the complicated 'stuff' will follow. Mathematics is like a maze. If you enter the maze without knowing the first few turns, no matter how hard you try, you will only become more lost. Simplicity is key in Mathemnatics. Tackle each question clearly and ALWAYS draw diagrams.
I have just recently finished a maths degree in Cardiff university but back in A-levels I taught GCSE Maths. My approach to lessons are starting with a few short questions from previous weeks (I find this means when having to revise before exams it is less difficult to remember and therefore require less revision, giving yourself more time to revise for other subjects).
There are only so many ways to pass a maths exam. There are countless ways to solve a problem. You do not need to memorise formulas and procedures. Once you understand why they exist, you'll be able to logically reason a solution, not just to a question asked in an exam, but any problem you may have! Maths is a world of play, and there are no questions that shouldn't be asked and explored.
I like to approach teaching by looking at the application of knowledge through questions and testing. I am a perfect tutor for GSCE pupils as I have recently gone through them myself and have also done my A levels, meaning I have a deeper knowledge of the subject.
I am a 2nd year Astrophysics student at Cardiff University, comfortable teaching maths and physics from Secondary to A level. I aim to achieve a fun and comfortable learning environment, structuring my lessons around the tutee's preferences. I like to get to know my tutee and understand what they wish to get out of our tutoring sessions. I then plan my sessions to ensure they achieve the goals.
As a university student currently studying Mathematics, there isn't much else on my mind on a daily basis. I've been fascinated with Mathematics from a young age, and I'd like to be able to show you why that is! - Which subject(s) do you teach? I teach GCSE Mathematics, IGSCE Mathematics, AS/A Level Mathematics, and AS/A Level Further Mathematics.
I tend to believe in a practical approach, starting by showing you how to approach the subject or question, and then giving examples for you to try for yourself or to work through with me. I will make sure you understand what you're doing as you go along, and help if you ever get stuck on a question.
My lessons will be student-focused, finding the best ways the student will learn in order to achieve the best outcome. The lessons will be a mix of revision, examples, questions and more lecture based content in order to give the student the opportunity to fully learn and enjoy. The lessons will be fun and relaxed with no pressure or expectations.
I try to bring maths alive by demonstrating real-life applications and through visualising abstract concepts. Recognising every student is different, I try to match my teaching to their method of learning.
