Deleuze defined philosophy as “the art of forming, inventing and fabricating concepts”; knowing full well in his advocation of a 'pedagogy of concept' the bidirectional relationship of information pertaining to perception. We are in other words subject to our beliefs, which very much shape the world that we see (and do not see) and the manner in which we behave.
My name is Olivia and I have been tutoring secondary school students for over 5 years. I have an MA degree in European Studies, History and Culture and a BA in Languages & History from UCL.
I believe that all children learn differently and at different rates, therefore it is important to find a style that suits them as well as inspiring them to be the best they can be. - Which subject(s) do you teach? I am currently a Y5 Primary School teacher, however I have experience of teaching from reception up until Y6. I therefore teach all the subjects taught at a primary level.
Studying for History exams is about two things: learning the facts and learning how to write essays. Neither of these aspects require specialist knowledge up front. Firstly, I have developed many different ways of learning large amounts of facts.
My teaching is engaging, structured and stretching where possible. I also believe interactive learning is essential for true understanding of subject matter - I do not look to deliver lectures to my students! Where possible I like to help my students guide the flow of the lesson.
I hope in some way to find each persons individual method of learning, as each of us is different, so to should the tools of teaching be different. I try not to go too deep into particular subjects but rather glide other several different subjects and then pull a cohesive conclusion from the bunch.
I give lessons to secondary students of all ages and abilities. In lessons I focus on teaching practical techniques such as how to build an essay plan, how to find effective resources and how to convert ideas into well rounded and high achieving essays.
I teach one on one or in small groups and for my teaching around my students. I am able to adapt to different teaching methods weather that be by constantly testing students or writing songs that help students remember big contexts. I know how hard revising is so I always make sure that I make studying enjoyable.

I believe the best way to approve, both for myself and others, is through practice and feedback. Hence, in terms of revision, writing essays and essay feedback would be central to any tutorial. History is not about just learning facts, but applying facts you have learnt to construct an argument.

As someone who has recently gone through the experience of taking the GCSE, AS and A Level exams for Sociology, I believe that I will be able to understand pupils' strengths and weaknesses throughout each lesson, and work towards improvement together with the pupils and their parents.
My teaching method is based on trying to find the easiest way to explain things to students because being a student myself sometimes teachers explain things in a complicated way that is hard to understand, yet there are different ways to go around it. I also base my teaching experiences on my own and what has worked with my siblings and myself and what didn't work as well.
My teaching method is fundamentally collaborative. The pupil and I will identify the areas which need the closest attention and work together to create a comprehensive overview of their subject in accordance with the curriculum and exam specifications. The most important thing a pupil can take away from our sessions is a growing sense of confidence in their ability to master the subject.
My teaching method is based around each student. I tend to use worksheets and sources to develop student's analytical skills and flashcards and other such resources for helping to learn/ revise content. It helps that I can be patient and often come up with innovative ways to structure my lessons as everyone learns differently at different paces.
When I teach history I’ll focus on two strands: one will be content, which will cover the skeleton of the course before delving into more detail; and the other is technique, to further the essential essay and question answering skills of the student
I believe no two students are the same and like to work with people based on their personal strengths and weaknesses working together in a way that is comfortable and productive for both the teacher and student.
