With an extensive background in the SEN sector, I ensure that my bespoke lessons fulfill a range of learning styles and nurture the student to achieve to the best of their ability. My strategies have been developed alongside SENCOs and Educational Psychologists and are aimed at yielding measurable results with a focus on putting the enjoyment back in to learning.
I give lessons to secondary school level and up students to improve their creative writing, grammar and sentence structure. I also help with reading and understanding literature, both classic and modern. My teaching methods make my lessons structured but relatively informal. I use creative writing and free association exercises to try to make the material as engaging and personalised as possible.
My approach to teaching would be to encourage students to think outside the box. Many students studying English Literature tend to restrict their thinking. During lessons, I will be more than happy to look through essays and show them how to improve their essay writing skills. I will also help them develop their ideas and help them write more coherently.
My teaching method is always student-centred. I feel I work with an equal balance of what the student requires, in terms of examinations and assessments, and what works best for them. I see myself as a Faciliator, in that the approach I take enables students to develop critical thinking skills and promote self-learning.
Tests and examinations are, of course, important but good preparation does not lie simply in working test papers. Such an approach will not uncover the cause of a pupil's difficulties. My approach is to try to identify what the child has not grasped, teach it and provide practise before requiring the pupil to finally work through test papers.
