About Rory
I have been a teacher for 4 years now, teaching both English literature and language to classes of high school student age and individual classes to adult students.
My students have gone on to achieve great marks in different high school exams, university modules and in some cases, they have just increased their appreciation of some great works of literature.
Literature has been my passion since I learned to read and I look forward to sharing the fruits of my reading and study with you.

I want to teach classes to any student of literature, of any age, from anywhere. Whether you are studying drama, novels, poetry, or even more everyday sources I can help you develop your analysis and increase your appreciation of the written word in English. I am an MA in English Literature and an experienced teacher and I look forward to deepening our understanding of some works of literature together.
Lessons will typically involve a discussion of your reaction to the text, a exploration of the techniques and methods used by the author, a short examination of previous scholarship on the text followed by a re-evaluation of your thoughts based on the new information. It's thorough and intense but it brings great results.
My belief is that, with literature, your own feelings and opinions are the beginning of the path to your understanding and we need to base our exploration of any text on these. Making literature relevant makes literature understandable.
