Each lesson would be organised. I would first teach the student the information and go through it with regular examples to help the student understand what we are trying to achieve. And once the student has completely understood, I will give him questions to answer to help him refine his skills on the topic.
Definitely, highlighting weaknesses is important for effective improvement. I prefer to develop an understanding for the content by linking concepts together and enforcing idea repetitively. Following this, answering practice questions is beneficial in order to apply it in exam terminology and settings, in order to be prepared for tests.
I would first talk to my student about what they feel their weak areas are and ask them to look at a checklist, so I can plan a lesson structure that would work best for them. Each lesson we would tackle one or two of these topics at a time (depending on the student's confidence), beginning with explaining it to my student (unless they just need practice), and then going through some questions.
My teaching method is based on mentor-mentee connections as I always try to form a good bond with the student and then to work on the parts of the course that is troubling to them. I like to do many problem sheets and past papers as I believe the best way to learn is by tackling the type of questions that would come up.
