I have a passion for local heritage with a doctorate thesis on the slums of Manchester.
I offer a laid-back tutoring environment where lessons will be accommodated to specific students' needs. I would like students to tell me issues they are facing in their study, and identify areas they believe they need to work on, and use this as a basis for tuition sessions, which can then develop as we go along.
I like to put across subject knowledge when necessary but ideally what I like to achieve is a sense of confidence in the student that they can ask for help when they need it, but they are also happy to look for their own solutions and answers, whenever they can. I try to use the greatest possible variety of teaching methods but it depends on what works with different students.
I have mainly taught at the degree level with some postgraduate supervision. I find it important to build a narrative into teaching so that students can follow the progression of a course from start to finish. I have extensive experience helping students prepare for essays.
Depending on how old the student is and their level of knowledge i approach things in multiple ways. For younger students, the focus should be on understanding the subject and its relevance. For older students who are similar to myself, the focus is on interpreting exam questions correctly and answering them with the needed amount of detail.
I have an interactive approach to teaching. Be prepared to have heated discussions and arguments making very valid points backed up with excellent research. I value your thoughts and opinions. Prove your points right with the correct and in depth background knowledge.
My teaching methodology adapts to what is being taught and to whom. But in most cases I will first provide lesson objectives and a plan/itinerary of how the lesson will proceed. In a class situation, I will usually outline the subject for ten minutes and then set questions for students to respond to in pairs. Thereafter we discuss each pair's answers with the whole class.

Starting off with the basics of each topic, build it up until there is a clear understanding of every section before moving onto exam answering techniques. I want to help you achieve the marks you deserve and prepare you for your exams/tests.
My teaching method is personalised to each students ability and a lesson usually begins with a brief overview of the topic being covered with some video content and lots of debate with questions and answers for the pros and cons. This encourages the students to think more about their own views and ideas.
My first encounter with students will be to discuss their needs and required learning areas which will enable me to tailor my tutoring lessons to what the student is studying. My lessons will aim to provide the most relevant and required content needed for upcoming subject exams and coursework.
